Asking for Help, Dogs on Shrooms & Our Fave New TV Shows

We’re taught to be capable. Low maintenance. Easy to work with.
So it’s no surprise that asking for help — even strategically, even when it could change everything — feels hard.

But here’s the truth:
No one builds a meaningful career or business alone.
And the women who move fastest? They ask for what they need.

This week, we’re talking about how to ask for help in ways that feel clear, confident, and grounded, not awkward or apologetic.

For clarity:
🧭 Get specific about what you're asking for
Instead of “Let me know if you hear of anything,” try:
→ “I’m looking for podcast guest spots this fall — let me know if you have one or know someone who does.”
→ “Do you know anyone who’s hired a great part-time ops lead recently? I’d love a referral.”

People want to help — but only if they know what help looks like.

For impact:
📬 Make your ask easy to act on
A clear subject line. A short note. A forwardable blurb or link. If your request takes more than 30 seconds to understand or share, it’s too complicated.

Try this:
→ “Would love an intro if you’re open!”
→ “Feel free to forward the line below if it’s helpful.”
→ “No pressure at all — just keeping you in the loop in case something comes to mind.”

For the long game:
🌱 Give context and offer something back
Lead with warmth, not transaction. Remind them what you’re building or navigating. And whenever possible, connect the dots back to them.

→ “I remember you mentioned your marketing hire last year — I’d love to hear how that’s going. I’m in a similar season and would welcome any insight.”
→ “Thanks again for the intro last spring — it was such a helpful convo. I’m reaching out now with a quick ask if you’re open…”

Your network is your ecosystem. Nurture it.

And remember: a thoughtful ask isn’t a burden — it’s a bridge.

Want help practicing your next ask — or offering support to someone else’s? Join us at Work With Day – November, happening today (note: we’re starting at 12:00 PM, not 11:00 AM this time). This is a room where women open doors for each other — no awkward LinkedIn messages required.

Here’s to asking (and receiving) with more ease.

🕶️ I'm gonna end up reading this book, and I hate that a little about myself.

⚽️ Everyone watches women's sports. Specifically, I'll be watching Gotham FC in the NWSL finals at Wilka's on Saturday if anyone would like to join!

📺 Pluribus is the first show in years that's had me waiting excitedly for the next episode.

🐈‍⬛ I'm sorry, but you still don't know enough about Curtis Sliwa.
