Ups & Downs, Worst Case Scenarios, & Olympics Inspo
As we sat glued to Olympic gymnastics over the past few days, admiring both the literal and metaphorical heights of Simone Biles and Frederick Richard, we couldn't help but be a little Carrie Bradshaw about it and wonder: could entrepreneurship, with its own highs and lows, qualify as an Olympic sport? 🤔
Being in business for yourself comes with its fair share of ups and downs. The ups are amazing. The downs... well, they can really suck. Here are a few ways to reframe those lows while simultaneously setting yourself up to have more of the highs:
🌱 Plant Seeds. Forget ABC (always be closing) and think ABP (always be planting). Whether you’re experiencing an up or a down, it’s SO helpful to keep networking, connecting with people, and maintaining strong business relationships. That way you’re always top of mind for lots of people who may need your products or services, or who can refer you to those who do.
👭 Remember you aren't alone. Leverage the network that you’ve cultivated and surround yourself with people who understand what you're going through, can serve as a sounding board, and who aren't just going to say, "Wouldn't it be easier to get a regular job?
💭 Think - like really, really think - about the worst case scenario. We have the tendency to catastrophize when things aren't going as planned. But when we actually sit and think about what would need to happen for our worst case scenario to actually occur, we realize that it's a lot further away than it may feel in the moment. (And we begin to see lots of opportunities where we can take action, which is super empowering.)
There’s a 99.9% chance this very topic will come up at next week’s Weak Ties/Strong Bonds dinner. There are still a few tickets left. Grab yours and join us for an evening of curated connections, conversation, and community with fellow women and gender diverse business owners.
