Business Lessons from Nobody Wants This, Louboutins, & Julia Louise-Dreyfus

At the urging of multiple Weak Ties/Strong Bonds members and - let's be honest - the entire internet, we dove into Nobody Wants This on Netflix this past week. And when we weren't swooning over Noah's emotional intelligence or giggling at the witty repartee between the main characters, we realized that the show is actually a treasure trove of business lessons.

Here are our top 3 takeaways so far (acknowledging that Laura's only half way though because she's doing her best to savor it and Lauren's a strict no spoilers kind of gal):

1. Good things can be really hard. Fairytale romances aren't real, and neither are fairytale businesses. And that's ok! When things get tough in your business (like, really tough) and it feels like the world is against you, it can seem like it's just not meant to be. But if everything were smooth sailing all the time, you'd never grow or develop the resilience you need. As in a healthy relationships every challenge you face in your business builds your character and increases your chances for long-term success.

2. You've got to advocate for your vision - even when people are telling you to go in a different direction. When everyone around Joanne is telling her to lean into the sex angle of her podcast, she's adamant that the show is really about empowerment and creating space for people to be open and honest about their experiences and desires. Similarly, in business, staying true to your core values and mission is vital—even when outside pressures try to pull you in a different direction.

3. Not everyone will be happy with your choices. When you start a business or begin freelancing, there may be people who are at best confused and at worst disapproving. And sometimes it will be the people closest to you who are trying to get you to change your mind and do the "safe" thing. Of course, they do it because they love you and want the best for you. But it means you've got to surround yourself with people who understand the desire to work for themselves and can support you through the ups and downs of entrepreneurship.

🎉 Luckily, that's what Weak Ties/Strong Bonds is all about!

📺 Since I binged Nobody Wants This the day it came out, I had to go find other things to watch, which brought me to My Lady Jane on Amazon. It's not as high quality as NWT, but it is fun.

👠 Obsessed with whomever came up with this conceptfor the Louboutin SS25 show.

🎃 Y'all, if I had a yard...

😍 This is actually just a Julia Louis-Dreyfus stan account.

🍁 Please and thank you.

🙅‍♀️ Instagram wore me down, and I tried that $200 supposedly posture-correcting sports bra so that you don't have to. It does *not* work.

To Tie Things Up…

Noah from Nobody Wants This, played by Adam Brody, says "I'm all in on this thing."

Oh look, it's you talking about your business!
